Evaluation
After a lengthy process of creating my final products, I have completed the plimanary task. The Research and planning step in this process helped alot because i found out what my audience liked and what they wanted to see. In the survey, I had a chance to ask specific questions to help my idea process such as, 'what would you like to see on the front cover?'. Planning the front cover of the magazine along with the contents page is very effective because it gives you something to revise from at a later date. for example, now i look back at my products and i can see that i did not follow the flat plan exactly.
My products follow the conventions of a excisting product. It has a main image, Masthead, date and website on the cover. On the contents page, i have the images, number of the pages and all the relative information. I also have the website and page number at the bottom of the page. In the background of both pages i have followed the conventions of the Bodmin college magazine that i analysed by making it an autumn edition. To do this i have put autumn leaves in different colours in the background of each page.
My products represent a couple of different social groups. First, It shows a student and it entails the success of the students. This would relate to the social group that likes to read about that sort of thing and to stereotype, a 'nerd'. On the other side of this i have a lazy ,relaxed, title that could relate to the more popular side of the social groups.
The audience of my media product would be 16-18 year olds currently attending college. They would be of any genders and enjoy reading magazines. They would be 16-18 because that is the age in which you attend college and this is a magazine that would be sold in the college and it is about the college. The reason i chose any genders is because colleges are not usually gender specific. If my audience enjoys reading magazines, they are more likely to get the magazine and read it. To attract my target audience, I made the magazine more laid-back then most of the college magazines out there. I did this because most of college is serious and you dint get to relax much. If my readers relax a little reading this, it would be great.
Constructing this product, I used photoshop purely because i food that it was the easiest to use. However after some research, i found that illustrator would have been the best programme to use because it has a wider range of tools available.
The strengths of my product would be that it offers a different view of college magazines. It also follows the conventions of the other magazines i have analysed. It also has a inviting look to it.
The weaknesses of my product would be that it does not look very professional. I think that the pulmonary task could of had a longer deadline to complete it because i did not have to experiment.
Next time, to improve, i would like to experiment correctly with all of the programmes and create a few different products and compare them all and choose which one is the strongest.

A good preliminary task. You met the deadline and completed all the tasks adequately.
ReplyDeleteResearch & Planning - your analysis of similar media products is good. You need to comment more on representation but you analysis codes and conventions well and link it to the audience. Your audience profiling and survey was sufficient but we need to look at the various methods of identifying and classifying your target audience in more detail
Construction - excellent flat plans. Your overall pieces show a good knowledge of Photoshop and layout codes. You need to focus on the composition of your photographs and the typography - cover lines in particular. Great idea to experiment with different programmes.
Evaluation - a good, well-explained summary of the process. Well done. For your final task, you'll ned to go into much more detail.
