photoshoot

Image
For these Photos a couple of guys and I went down the road by the college to get an outdoor shoot. I found that it was difficult to get good images because of the conditions and my models. The shot of the soundboard i will use in my double page spread and the medium close-up of the two models would be my cover photo. I feel that the one on the right on the last photo here fit into David Gauntlett's theory who said in 2002 that men are seen in popular media as the extra strong macho man. However the one on the left of the last photo could break this theory and not follow it as closely as the one on the right because of his clothing and direct address to the reader.

Who is going to publish my magazine? My magazine will be published by bauer magazine publishers. This is because they have a massive range of magazines that they have published, like the film magazine, Empire. I have also chosen them because they have a lot of arms that reach to other magazines which will make my magazine quite popular. Mood Board ...

Typography Analysis.

The Title of my Magazine needs to be original and cool yet it must fit into the genre conventions of the dance/club sub-genre. So I got thinking and what do you see at clubs? dj's but the two letters D and J are to shot to be my mast head so i lengthened one ... D-Jay. D-Jay is a good name because there is no magazine named that out there. Furthermore, the play on the word/letter of J is rememberable. For the typography of this title, I want to incorporate the 'loudness' of the word d-jay so i need something loud that catches the attention of my target audience. This can be big and bold and colourful all at the same time. Something like this to the right. This font can be found on da-font under the name of E-square.   It is a San Serif font that is bold and can be easily read. When it goes onto my magazine, However I will change the colour to something that stays in the conventions f the sub-genre but is bright and 'noisy' in the Target audience's eyes...

stereotypes and representations

Gender  This cover of Mix mag, a club/dance magazine, supports the theory of Laura Mulvey. She said in 1975 that women in T.V and traditional media products, women are seen as only as two things, "As erotic objects of the desire for the characters within the story and as erotic objects for the desire of the spectator." As you can see, this magazine cover strongly supports this theory as the main image is of a women dressed as an erotic object that is for the desire of the spectator. from this we could say that the Primary target audience would be Men because of the main image and its erotic nature. However, it could be argued that the secondary target audience would be women of a certain age because they would see the women as something that they would want to be. Also, the use of direct address adds to the effect of the appeal toward the male target audience. In terms of my own club/dance magazine, I would use these terms to support mulvey's theory because it could ...

Checklists

My Magazine cover, On my magazine cover i will need a few key things so I will make a checklist... 1) Masthead - preferably on the top half of the magazine - I want to experiment with the color but something defiantly something bright like white. 2) Main image- A medium long shot of a male or female wearing club like clothes. 3) 'Puff ' quote -  The puff quote will promote the magazine, so it would be something like, 'The worlds n.o 1 magazine' 4) Color code - the color code is yet to be decided for my magazine, but i want it to all link 5) Cover lines - The cover lines will HAVE to link to the content in the magazine contents and double pages. 6) Bar-code My Magazine contents page, 1) Title- The title of the page will obviously be 'Contents' but I will have to do it in the same font as the masthead on the cover of the magazine. 2) Main image- the main image doesnt have to be the smae person as on the cover. So i might use a different perso...

Audience profiling

Image
People who write and create music magazines with a sub-genre of club relate to their target audience by doing a number of things, One is by using colours that relate to them. For example if the sub genre is rock, the colours would be black and dark. However, if the sub-genre was pop the colours would be pink and bright. From this we can then go on to say that rock is a more masculine magazine and pop is defiantly more feminine. Another way would be the main image. The main image is very important to link to the target audience. If the magazine would be Club, you would expect to see a club artist. However on other magazines, like car magazines, you would see cars. - On fashion magazines you would see women wearing the clothes featured in the magazine. all of these above link to their target audience by, Club- men. Cars- Men Fashion - women. It is what immediately comes to mind when you hear those words. Women can relate because of the clothes and things the model on the cover is we...

Title notes

Image
My title of my magazine is going to be D-JAY because it is a fun play on the word Dj and it looks good on the top of a cover of a magazine. I have created it in illustrator and here is a screen shot of it. This was done in illustrator and i took a font from the selection on the program and made it big and all caps. This is a sans serif font that is black because it looks bold and can show that it is the title of the magazine. I added the triangles to it to make a constant flow throughout my magazine of the graphic design side of the images and fonts. The caps can also be easily edited later on to be a different colour if i feel it will look better on my cover. After asking a few of my peers, i found that this font is a professional looking masthead for a magazine of this genre.

Above, I have done a mind-map. It shows the key publishers in magazine world. Bauer publish magazines like Empire, film. I wanted to show a range of publishers because i had big - well-known magazine publishers and then i wanted to contrast this and show an independent magazine publisher. Wire is a music magazine publisher based in London and do everything them selves. Anthem is not as well known as Bauer but it is more popular then wire, They publish rock and pop magazines like Guitar and pop.

Photo-compositions/shots

1) Big close-up of my face.     This one turned out okay (apart from the face (mine) in it ) The only thing wrong with the photo is that there is some of the background in it. 2) rule of third.     This photo uses the third rule where the camera has a grid and the person taking the photograph positions the subject in the photo either to the left centre or right. To break this, would to have the person or persons in the whole shot. this one is good because i am to the right.  3) over the shoulder shot.  This shot is from over the subjects shoulder. My attempt is okay because I have followed what the rules are for the over the shoulder shot. Next time i will check the area in which the photo is set because i did not realise that a bottle was in it.  4) This photo was to experiment with light. As you can see, i got it wrong and the subject of the photo is to dark. The model in this picture is qui...
